3D scanner

The system is a 3D scanner. If there was the system,we can get blue print of engines. It can find changing of specific. And we can measurement exhaust timing. It can measure flatness and roughness. Roughness is important for sleeve surface. Roughness keep oil for lubrication. To keep quality of industrial product needs scanner. Each system cost 70000 dollars over. These systems made by Keyence in Osaka Japan. Keyence is famous of high salary in Japan. Japanese technology depends on Keyence.

Find shop

I found the shop to get max engine. I’ve wanted to get engine by Massimo Fantini. It’s 5 ports long stroke engine. I am surprised the list. Max has tuning service. But services are not explained specific. I want to try tuning menu. I’ll try to get more information.

What engine is best?

We don’t know what engine is the best. Each person has each best. But I have point of view to find the best. There are many manufacturers of RC engine industry. Nova,Picco,OS are big three. Almost other brands is based on big 3 manufacturers. There were GRP,Sirio.Technopower few years ago. Probably base engine ability is not so different among big 3. But there are some gurus in the industry. They can make engine to increase abilities. Now everybody knows Mario Rossi who is founders REDS engine. Reds is based on Picco. I used Reds. It has nice pickup. And Rody Roem is founders of RB Techno power and now VS racing. He made big innovation of turbo plug. Chamber o ring and etc. VS racing is based on OS. I used TP engine. Center drive shaft

EVO cahanges center drive system. I’ve ordered aluminum shafts. Probably pin is made by steel. It’s lighter than CVD. Fast rotation parts must be lighter. Center drive shaft rotate faster than wheel driveshaft. Totally are diff cup and shaft lighter than CVD or universal joint? Is the diff cup lighter than CVD cup? If so the modification is good. Simple dog bones joint has durability. Almost straight joint ,there is no difference any type joint.

How can remove burr?

For burr of engine block or sleeve it is enough 30000rpm pen drill. It’s 150 dollars. It includes foot pedal. This is a diamond bit. Almost burrs are removed by little bit. But for pin boss or bearing housing scratches, it is operated by ultrasonic dril. But it’s very expensive. It’s 2300 dollars. It’s Gucci bag for my wife birthday present. It cost as same as ultrasonic drills.

Pipe selection

Nowadays almost buggy engine manufacturers recommend short manifold. Probably it comes from space matters. There is no space between exhauste port to body end. It has not large effect for engine character. But pipe has large effect for character. This is structure of pipe.  It has two pieces. Pipe has two length. TL concerns with RPM. TL is only pipe. L include manifold length. Short TL make high RPM. But L is decided from exhaust timing. Exhaust timing is from mouth of crankshaft design. Generally Long L has pick up. We should use manufacture recommended pipe and manifold. Because we don’t know exhaust timing.

How can find burr?

At first how can find burr? There are many burrs on RC engine. Crankcase,crankshaft,sleeve,piston. For example this picture is taken by iPhonX x2 mode. We can’t find any burr. Accuracy is defined by product purposes. Aircraft engines require more preciousness than car engine. Miniature RC engines require more preciousness than car engine. RC engines don’t have piston ring. Then Primary component requires high accuracy. Now digital microscope is sold under 60 dollars. It can be watch x 600. If you have child you should buy it for science learning. It can connect PC or monitor. It’s a pro use microscope. It’s 350 dollars. This monitor has 3 million resolutions. Now we can find burr with microscope for low cost. Next I will report how can remove burr.

Convert to EVO

My Serpent is not EVO yet. I’ve already changed front suspension tower and emulsion shock. I want to convert EVO. I research manual of EVO to convert from SRX8. First have to change chassis. It is changed position of engine and center diff position. Then needs to change both center drive shaft and diff  cup. Another buggies front center drive is shorter than rear center. It’s means center diff is placed front end. But EVO front center is longer than rear center. It means center diff is placed mid of chassis. But center diff super gear is set front side. Engine can be set front side. Totally EVO center drive shaft becomes shorter 4mm. Probably diff line becomes straight. If almost drive shaft set straight no need universal connect for power loss. Front center drive shaft is 96mm. It is shorter than original shaft 2mm. And there is aluminum option. Rear center drive is 94mm. Also shorter 2mm. This o-ring is put on diff cu...

Running in

I go to parking near my house. Running in needs long straight. Maximum throttle blow out  powder of aluminum. Then needs oval course. I use heat cycle method. Each time run to heat chamber with 100 - 130C degrees. Every time cool down to 30C. 2 minute x 8 sets 3 minutes x 3 sets 4 minutes x 6 sets I used pre heater on first three sets. If it’s cold I use more times. Almost piston is broken on first fire. On 2min x 8sets. I put cover on cooling head. I never change needle from factory default. It is enough to heat 100C. 3min x 4sets  I get out cover. I close high needle 5minutes and close slow needle 2 minutes. If stooped engine on low speed or idleing should close low needle 1 minute more. Should measure temperature each 1 minute. If it is under 100C should close high needle 2minutes. If it is over 140C should open high needle 2minutes. It’s before running in. It’s after running in. Nova piston touches sleeve ...

Crankshaft

Crankshaft is lighter than OS. Can’t say light weight is better. Mantra is aimed for high pick up. Diameter is 0.5mm shorter than OS. Crank thickness is 0.5mm shorter. There is two holes at front side. Mid side intake holes shape is symmetry design. Nova usually has scratch for inserting piton pin . But the piston has no scratch. If Nova had quality of manufacturing others go to bankrupt.

Compare with

I’ve got Mantra. Yesterday I went to Tokyo and bought Mantra at Spiral. I compare with OS. Mantra heavier than OS. It’s OS. Nova connection rod is the most strong. And big metal is connected precious. There is no groove between metal. Piston have four holes. Then piston is lighter. Two hole is placed near intake side. It protects to expand by heating. Piston attaches sleeve at top position like OS.

Mantra is a square bore engine by nova Rossi. Few years ago Spanish brand Ultimate rereleased nova  based same engine. But now Altimate have changed to OS speed OEM. Nowadays buggy get traction by tire and tranc ability growing up. Then pro drivers no need power and need max speed and pick up. Probably nova has two design line. Original Nova line and RB line. Mantra came from RB line. MITO came from original line. Nova original have off set carburetor line like Mito. But Mantra has straight set carburetor. Crankshaft is not filled silicon potting. 14mm diameter crankshaft and big intake mouth make no need potting. But it can fill easily myself. And it not covered with DLC. Nova think no need DLC. Also On load lines don’t have DLC. I think bearing quality is more important than coat operation. 14mm Crankshaft requires small ball bearing. It is better for high rotation.
